Beta Carotene is widely used in precursor for Vitamin A (retinol) and can assist in the reduction of heart disease and certain types of cancers, including prostate and lung cancer.

The human body converts Beta Carotene into Vitamin A (retinol). Vitamin A is needed for many processes in the body; it provides healthy looking skin, creating mucus membranes, improving immune function and good for eye health and vision.

Although more than 600 cartenoids have been identified in food, it appears that only six of them are used in significant ways by the body or tissues of the body, Beta Carotene being one of them along with lycopene, alpha-cartotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin.

Beta Carotene can be found is foods such as kale, spinach, sweet potato and lettuce.
